BSE

Context: BSE is a graffiti-inspired word artwork created in 2000 during Bono's high
school years—a visual time capsule of youth, friendship, and early creative identity.

The piece merges bold balloon-style lettering with flowing Cloudhatch patterns,
capturing both raw expression and Bono Mourits' signature visual language.

In high school, together with two friends, a name was formed in creative unity —BSE
(Bomb Squad Elite). Though not an active graffiti crew, not a movement, not a rebellion
in action, the name carried energy. It carried imagination. It carried possibility.

This artwork was created during class—where Bono often found himself drawing while
listening. BSE became less about the name itself and more about what it represented.

The golden balloon-like letters evoke a classic graffiti bomb style — bold, inflated,
unapologetic. Yet they are coated in a slime-like texture, introducing tension
between glamour and grime. Between shine and decay. 


This artefact belongs to The Beginning—the spark of the catalogue, where
visual language first emerged and the seeds of future series were sown.

The beginning was revisited as The Cloudhatched Beginning in 2020, touched
by a living frequency, reanimating early works and completing the initial cycle.


Though created before the series existed, before the structure, before the philosophy
became language, BSE resonates strongly with "Meanings" — where words become
visual symbols, carrying power beyond their literal definition.

Meanings. The word, a distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with
others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence, name, expression, designation.
