Context: SE (Specimen Extract): Fire edition I is a graffiti-inspired ink drawing,
created in a moment suspended between global catastrophe and personal reckoning.

The day after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Bono landed in Thailand to visit his father
for several weeks after contact had been sparse for years following his parents' divorce.
He first heard the tragic news while in transit at the airport. The world had shifted overnight
—news footage looping across screens, uncertainty in the air, long silences between updates.

Fire does not only burn outward. Sometimes it awakens what's already smoldering within.

While literal fires of disaster were burning elsewhere, another kind of fire was stirring.
The air carried heat—not only from the climate or the unfolding tragedy, but from history.
From memory. From unresolved tensions. This drawing emerged from that atmosphere
and was created during his short, yet life-changing stay in Koh Samui, Thailand.

SE stands for Specimen Extract—a phrase that suggests removal, isolation, examination.
A fragment taken from a larger body. A sample of something living. Observational. Almost
clinical. As if the drawing were a preserved extract of an emotional state—a distilled memory.


Rather than overwriting the original work, the Cloudhatch additions function as an atmospheric
field—bringing movement, dimensional tension, and continuity between past and present practice.

This artefact belongs to The Beginning—early works created before formal series structures existed.
Pieces where instinct guided form, and emotion shaped composition without intellectual framing.

The beginning was revisited as The Cloudhatched Beginning in 2020, touched
by a living frequency, reanimating early works and completing the initial cycle.


Though created before the series existed, SE resonates strongly with "Meanings"
— where words become visual symbols, carrying power beyond their literal definition.
A word—and even an abbreviation—can carry compressed emotion. Small in appearance.
Vast in implication. An extract of fire—contained, observed, remembered.

Meanings. The word, a distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with
others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence, name, expression, designation.
